This means your stream continues over a more stable internet connection, even when you experience network issues on the go. You don’t have to constantly restart the stream and you lose far fewer viewers during brief mobile connection drops. If the mobile connection becomes too weak or drops entirely, an automatic scene switching tool for OBS helps keep your viewers entertained in the meantime. Once the connection is back, the stream automatically switches back to the live feed. Additionally, your streaming software on your home computer gives you far more creative control to enrich your stream with alerts, overlays, and other elements.

Do I need to open ports or change my router/firewall settings for software like OBS to receive the stream?

No, you don’t need to open any ports or change anything on your router or firewall. That’s one of the core advantages of our IRL Endpoint Server. Both your mobile encoder (for example, your phone, a LiveU, or an action camera) and your local streaming software (for example, OBS Studio or vMix) each establish an outbound connection to our server. Your encoder sends the stream via RTMP or SRT to us, and your streaming software pulls the signal from our server. Standard home routers allow outbound connections by default, just like when browsing the web. Nothing needs to “come in” from the outside; instead, your local streaming software actively “reaches out” to our server. This is also why the solution works even behind restrictive networks. With CGNAT (Carrier-Grade NAT), used by many mobile carriers and some fiber or cable ISPs, you don’t have a dedicated public IPv4 address, making port forwarding impossible anyway. Our server solves exactly this problem by acting as a central relay in a publicly accessible data center. Both sides connect outbound to it, with the sending encoder and the receiving streaming software each connecting outbound. The same principle applies behind corporate firewalls, double-NAT setups, or restricted Wi-Fi networks. As long as you can access the internet normally, your stream will reach you.

What are the requirements for using the IRL Endpoint Server?

Using the IRL Endpoint Server generally doesn’t require any special prerequisites. Your mobile setup must support RTMP or SRT to send the stream to the IRL Endpoint Server. You’ll also need a local streaming PC running OBS Studio or similar streaming software to send your IRL stream from there to your platform of choice. Depending on your internet connection speed, you should also match the bitrate of your mobile stream and the output bitrate configured in your streaming software accordingly. The bandwidth must be sufficient to both receive the incoming mobile stream (download) and stream the final output to your preferred platform (upload).

What does the “unlimited data” feature mean?

Unlimited data refers to the IRL Endpoint Server itself. This means the data consumed by the IRL Endpoint Server for streaming is unlimited. You can stream as much as you want with our server. However, keep in mind: the connection from your device to our server also consumes data. That’s outside of our control. You’ll need a suitable data plan to transmit your stream to our server.
