The IRL Backpack maximizes the stability of your stream with its advanced redundancy system that supports up to 4 internet connections simultaneously. The mix of 2x LTE modem, 1x LAN and 1x WLAN connections forms a robust backbone that protects against unexpected interruptions and ensures that your stream remains live and smooth regardless of external conditions.

Not only does the system provide resilience against common streaming pitfalls such as weak signals or network congestion, it also allows you to broadcast from virtually anywhere. From busy city centers to remote outdoor locations, the IRL Backpack adapts to your environment and automatically switches between connections to ensure optimal streaming quality and stability.

As additional security for an uninterrupted stream, we recommend our IRL Broadcasting Server or IRL Endpoint Server. Both servers manage your stream automatically and intelligently. If you should lose the signal despite the redundancy, the server automatically switches to another scene in OBS Studio, which informs your viewers that the stream will continue shortly without interrupting it completely.

What does the IRL backpack consist of?

Backpack

The mesh on the side allows best air flow for cooling the video encoding unit. On the inside of the backpack there is a nice layout of pockets that allows you to keep your equipment in place. As with all Manfrotto equipment the backpack is very durable and high-quality.

Video streaming encoder

At the heart of your setup there needs to be a video encoder that takes the video signal, encodes it and sends it to the Internet. This device can utilize up to four different internet connections simultaneously: 1x Ethernet, 1x WiFi, 2x USB. In case one of the connections or in the worst case three connections lose the signal, you would still have a backup connection.

LTE Modems

We deliver our IRL backpacks with two LTE modems for best reliability and stability. A total of four modems can be used simultaneously. In order to utilize more than one network connection you will need a cloud bonding service. A one year license costs 400€ excl. VAT and can be bought from us together with your IRL backpack.

Powerbank

The encoding unit is a very high-powered device. It needs a lot of energy to encode the up to 1080p @ 60fps video. Using the included powerbank, you can stream up to 12 hours without recharging.

Camera

There are a lot of different possibilities and options you can choose from. Most streamers use action cams due to the great image stabilization, the extremely wide angle lens and the small size. Some streamers use DSLR cameras for even better image quality. You should keep in mind that this is going to be very heavy and the shaking makes the stream less enjoyable even if the lens is better.

Is the IRL backpack ready for immediate use on arrival?

The IRL Backpack already contains all the components you need for your stream, such as a high-resolution camera, an advanced encoder, 2 LTE modems, a long-life battery, all the necessary cables, a robust backpack and a mobile tripod.

After initial setup, the backpack starts the stream with a simple push of a button.

To turn your stream into a fully professional production, we recommend using either an IRL Broadcasting Server in combination with our IRL Backpack or, if you already have a streaming PC, your local OBS Studio in combination with an IRL Endpoint Server. Both servers manage your stream automatically and intelligently. If you lose the signal, the server will automatically switch to another scene telling your viewers that the stream will resume shortly. Otherwise, the stream could stop completely and you could lose viewers.

The servers also allow you to add overlays and alerts to your stream, just like a stream from your home studio. In addition, intelligent algorithms ensure that your connection is as stable as possible. We offer these servers for up to 1080p @ 60fps for best quality.

How can I prevent interruptions to the stream if the network connection is lost despite using several mobile networks?

To avoid interruptions to the stream and therefore potential loss of viewers, we recommend our IRL Servers. If you lose the signal, they will automatically switch to another scene, informing your viewers that the stream will continue shortly.

If you already have a powerful local computer with OBS Studio, we recommend our IRL Endpoint Server as a supplement to our IRL Backpack. This forwards the signal from your backpack to your local OBS Studio, where you can customize your stream with alerts and overlays.

If you do not have your own powerful computer running OBS Studio, our IRL Broadcasting Server complements your setup. This is a cloud server that gives you access to all the functionalities of OBS Studio to give your stream the final professional touch.
